Artist Statement: I am a 9th grade student at Trinity Episcopal School. This year was my first year taking a real ceramics class. I quickly realized that bowls were my strength. So, in this collection I have developed three rustic colored pieces to imitate a vintage theme. I created these bowls by throwing them on the wheel. I then waited for them to become leather hard to trim them using a traditional method. I glazed these pieces by using a re-brown underglaze then proceeding to finally glaze them with clear glaze. I decided to not put a donut like foot at the bottom in order to maintain a nice curve. My main challenge was the way the underglaze color turned out. The color originally came out as a vibrant red but I decided to change the color of the underglaze to make a more brown-red.
